There are so many survey companies online, and you hear stories every day about how people are making money from home by taking surveys.

Is it really possible?  The short answer is yes, but there is more to it than that.

You must be careful to pick and choose the companies you sign up with.  For every legit survey company out there, there are just as many if not more scams.

How do you know if you should sign up with a company or not?  The decision can be overwhelming.  Some are awesome, some are just okay, and some are so bad they might as well be scams even if they really are not.

The key is to develop a system.  Something like this works well:

  • Create an email address specifically for signing up with survey sites.
  • Research survey companies thoroughly and choose those that are highly recommended to sign up for.
  • Make the rounds of the sites you are signed up for daily, earning as much as possible from each one every day.

Of course, if you want, you can just sign up for the good ones and do a survey here and there in your spare time.  You may not earn as quickly, but the spare change could add up over the course of a year.

Now back to the question at hand.  Is Vindale Research one that should be on your list?  Let’s find out.

Signing up is fast and easy.  They do not ask for credit card information, and the site is user-friendly.

The contact information, terms, and privacy information are all readily available and accessible.

The Site

There is a lot of information on the site, but it isn’t overwhelming.  In fact, it is comparatively one of the most simple, straightforward, and well-organized survey company websites I have seen.

A lot of this is attributed to the limited rewards, but more on that later.

There is a clear place to click for each of the earnings opportunities, a section for rewards, and a section for information that can help you utilize the site better, such as links to the blog and social media pages.

Rewards

This is where the rubber meets the road with survey sites.  How quickly can you earn rewards?  The thing that is unique about Vindale is that they only pay out in cash.

There are no points to redeem for gift cards, PayPal cash, or miles.  You earn straight cash.

What Does this Mean?

I was surprised that some other reviewers found this piece of information to be disturbing, taking it to be a warning sign or red flag.

I find it refreshing myself, because I never have to guess how much each survey is earning for me.

There is no need to convert points to cash, and there is no overwhelming rewards’ catalog to browse through.

I know before I ever click on a survey exactly how much money I will earn and approximately how long it will take.

How Do I Get Paid?

You can request payment once your account reaches a balance of $50.  You may request to be paid through PayPal or to receive a paper check.

Processing time for a check is longer, so PayPal is your fastest option.  It is a safe and trusted form of payment, so there is really no reason not to use this option if you are in the United States.

Does Your Balance Expire?

According to the Terms, any account that remains without activity for 60 days will be considered inactive, and any verified balance will be considered forfeited.

Here is the fun part though.  When I signed in recently after a long hiatus (like, 7 years apparently), I had a balance.

I was shocked as I had no clue how long I had really been away, but there was, a verified balance of $21.

Further investigation revealed this balance was the result of a product evaluation and survey done back in 2010!  I totally forgot about it.

Now, I am determined to earn $29 more dollars, cash out, and report back to you whether I get the full balance or not.

The safest thing to do it to be certain you are at least somewhat active every 60 days.

How Can You Earn?

As with many survey companies, surveys are not the only means to the end here.  There are many ways to earn.

Surveys

There is no way to know what will be available at any given time.

A recent glance showed a couple of surveys paying between $3 and $5 and projected to take about 15 minutes, and the rest paying less than $1 and taking anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes.

Videos

This is perhaps the easiest way to earn on the site, because all you have to do is kick back and watch videos.

They are typically less than a minute and pay from $.05 to $.25. You cannot fast-forward or click off, however.  You have to watch the entire video to receive credit.

Referrals

There is a generous referral program that earns you $5 per referral you sign up.

Be aware, however, that Vindale Research is clear in their terms that they do not tolerate their panelists spamming anyone in an effort to earn referrals.

The safest way to earn referrals is to simply tell others why you love working with Vindale and let them know you can earn credit if they sign up through you.

Cash Codes/ Contests/ Daily Question

These are bonus opportunities to earn cash.  If you sign up, be certain to like the Facebook page as cash codes are often released.

Sometimes this is just a bonus for anyone that finds it and claims in while it is active, and sometimes there is a contest with a code as a reward.

The daily question is sort of sweepstakes where a certain number of those answering are drawn to receive free cash.  The usually amount is around $.25.

Take a Payment Pic

Vindale pays $5 per picture that you take with your payment from them.

Likely they are collecting them for proof that they do pay, but if you are getting paid, and then getting paid to show you got paid, it is a win-win right?

How Much Can I really Earn?

It is my opinion that this site offers some clear advantages for earnings optimization for two main reasons.

  1. You know exactly how much you can make and have a clear estimate of the time it will take to make that amount.
  2. You have a general idea what the survey is about before you attempt it.

These two characteristics are different than many other sites.

The advantage is that, if you play it smart, you can utilize your time by choosing the higher paying surveys that both take the least amount of time and that you are most likely to qualify to complete.

For example, if you have a baby and see a survey that pays $5, will take around 20 minutes, and is related to diapers, jump on it!  While you may still screen out, you definitely have a chance at qualifying.

If you do not have children in diapers, or do not have children or even plan to have children, you may want to skip this one.  It is probably a time waster.

Playing it smart and choosing the surveys you attempt carefully will go a long way to maximizing your earnings.

As far as an amount that you can earn, it will vary.  Demographics play a huge role in this type of work.

There may be times where there are tons of surveys you qualify for, and other times it may seem like there is nothing for weeks.

What Do Others Have to Say?

If you start looking around the internet at common review sites, you will see some bad reviews for Vindale.  Most of these relate to being kicked out of the site when trying to cash out, or not being paid for various reasons.

Common Complaints

One person stated he had a balance of $90 after already cashing out once, and he was asked for further paperwork after trying to cash out again.

When he turned in paper work proving he was a legal resident of the United States, he was kicked out of the site and did not get his money.

The thing to remember here is they are clear on the requirements to use their site and earn money in their terms.  If you sign up and use the site without meeting all of the qualifications, there may be consequences.

Other common complaints included not being paid.  Again, there are clear regulations for payment, and they are not complicated.

If you are read all of the information and ensure you understand from the beginning, you will likely not have issues.

Additionally, some complain that it takes too long to reach the payout threshold.

This is true of most survey sites, but as mentioned before, Vindale does at least offer some advantage in listing a cash amount and a general survey topic so you can better choose which surveys on which to spend your time.

The safest thing to do is evaluate your own expectations, and read all of the information in the terms and privacy agreement before signing up.

The Better Business Bureau

The BBB has Vindale Research rated at an A, which is more than can be said for many other sites.

In addition, out of 28 user reviews, it has a 4 star rating.

The stellar rating with the BBB, along with the fact that this is one of the oldest survey companies on the internet, leads me to the conclusion that this is a legitimate survey site.

No one is going to get rich taking surveys, but this one is a good one to have in rotation if you enjoy this type of work.
