Product Testing USA is not your standard survey site. In fact, they aren’t really a survey site at all.
However, it still sometimes shows up in searches, as some survey sites offer product testing as well.
They started in the United Kingdom as Home Product Testing UK, and now have branched out to the U.S. and Australia.
What Is It?
If it isn’t a paid survey site, then the next question is, what is it? Well, it is a site that claims to offer free products in exchange for honest reviews of those products.
This isn’t unheard of, as many sites offer this.
The difference is, Product Testing USA offers some really big products. Things like the Xbox One, the FitBit Versa, and the newest iPad are all on the table.
I think you will agree these are a pretty big deal, especially since you get to keep the products you test. Who doesn’t want to test stuff for free and keep it?
They also offer secret shopping dining opportunities that can include a free meal in exchange for a review of the restaurant.
Surveys?
A couple of reviews I read said that they do offer surveys from other survey sites, just not their own.
I didn’t see this, so I don’t know if it is changed or I just missed it.
There is no obvious link to surveys however, and they do not offer their own surveys regardless.
Reviews
Even though the products are free, this isn’t something for nothing. Reviews must include a 500-word written portion, a video that is at least one minute long, and pictures.
This can take significant time, so the product does actually cost your something, just not money.
That said, I don’t know many people that wouldn’t take that kind of time for a free iPad!
Products
The products range from the newest electronics to beauty products and new release DVDs. The sky really is the limit.
You can click on the categories tab to see the different product categories, then go from there to find out what is currently being offered in each category.
Sign Up
The sign-up process is different than others in that you don’t really sign up to use the site, but rather for the product you want to test.
This means you have to sign up for each product separately. I was able to sign up for a product using my Facebook account, which cut the time significantly, as did auto-fill.
Also, once you have signed up for a product, much of the information is auto filled for you when you try to sign up for other products. That helps too.
Does Product Testing USA Really Work?
It depends on who you ask. You can see reviews that other users have done, so it would seem that they do actually send out products as promised.
If you visit the Facebook page, you can tell that there is a lot of dissent out there about this.
Here is what I could piece together. It seems that while they are a legitimate product testing site, there are simply not enough products to go around.
There are thousands of testers, and companies do not give away thousands of free products.
This means you could literally sign up and never be chosen.
You can see on the Facebook page that they have a lot of members that have been members for a long time and haven’t been chosen.
That doesn’t seem like a big deal on the surface. You sign up, and if you get chosen great, and if you don’t, no big deal.
What’s the Catch?
There is no monetary cost to sign up with Product Testing USA. However, there was some fine print that caught my eye, and I am so glad it did.
I wanted to sign up to test the newest FitBit. I used my Facebook account to sign up, and then scrolled down to fill in any information that didn’t carry over, like my birthdate.
I did note that my cell phone number was filled in, and that is actually what stopped me.
There was a box to check just before you submit your request.
The fine print beside that box states that by ticking the box, you are agreeing by electronic signature to receive phone calls from partners and sponsors even if you are on the DNC (Do Not Call) list.
Whoa.
Hold up.
What’s that again? Right. I checked several products after and each registration form included the same thing.
For each product you sign up to test you have to agree to receive telemarketer calls, even if you are on the DNC list.
They will not let you submit your form to apply to test the product if you do not click this box.
What Does This Mean?
It means your phone may be ringing off the hook if you start signing up to test products.
I honestly wouldn’t mind if I thought I had a good chance of getting chosen to test the product, but given the nature of most of the comments on their Facebook page, I already knew the chances were slim to none.
Couple that with the idea of my phone ringing with junk calls at all hours, and I wasn’t so sure it was worth it anymore.
This also led me to look more closely at their privacy policy, and it is right there in black and white. They share your information with 3rd party companies.
In other words, your phone and your inbox will likely be full of spam, and the chances you will ever get to test a product are slim.
Payment
The only payment you receive from Product Testing USA is that you get to keep any products you review.
While these can be of significant value, there is no way to make cash on this site.
Is Product Testing USA Legit or Scam?
In reality, this is not a scam. They do not charge you any money to sign up, nor do they ever ask for any credit card or PayPal information.
They also make it clear that you will not be chosen to review every product you sign up for.
While the expectation by the user is obviously that they will be chosen at some point, that isn’t because the company is a scam.
It seems like they do actually send out products, it just isn’t as often or to as many people as they make it seem.

It depends. I wouldn’t do it, because I don’t like spam in my inbox or on my phone.
Since I know that there isn’t much chance I will actually get to test something, it isn’t worth it to me.
You can take care of inbox spam with a dedicated email address, but I don’t want to change my phone number.
If you love testing products and don’t mind spam, and you go into it knowing you very well may never get chosen, then it doesn’t hurt anything to sign up here.
You aren’t going to make any money though.
