An extra $1000 a month would be nice, wouldn’t it?
It may not be as out-of-reach as you think.
If you’re thinking, “I need 20,000 dollars more every year to get ahead,” you’re not alone. It’s common for people to need more than what their jobs are giving them.

And it’s completely possible to use a side gig or freelancing role to earn $1000 or more every single month.
Whether you want to do it online or off, I’m listing several legitimate ways for you to get the extra cash you need, potentially doubling your income for the year!

Getting $1,000 a month from surveys isn’t easy. I won’t lie.
But it is possible if you know what sites to use and use your time wisely.
That’s because some of my favorite survey sites offer high-paying opportunities like focus groups or long surveys that pay more than regular ones.
Plus, some survey sites simply pay much better for their surveys than others do.
I stick with the same few panels every month and consistently make money.
If you use your favorite sites wisely by working around your work schedule, you could make at least a few hundred dollars extra this month to put toward your $1,000 goal!

Sell Extra Stuff
Sometimes, getting rid of your extra stuff you have laying around your house is the easiest and quickest way to get some extra cash.
You can sell just about anything on eBay, from broken to brand new.
Amazon also lets you sell some used things, but it will have to be something that is already listed on the site.
Facebook buying and selling groups are also an excellent option to find people locally who might want your stuff.
For specific sales, try these sites:
- Electronics: BuyBackWorld, Gazelle, uSell.com
- Books: Amazon, Bookscouter, Decluttr
- Clothing: ThredUp, Swap, Poshmark
- Jewelry: TrueFacet, ThingsWeBuy, Worthy
Yes – you can sell your own hair and make $1,000 or more if someone wants it bad enough!
Long, luxurious hair is what sells the highest, as is uncommon colors like red or blonde.
But, even brunettes with shoulder-length hair might be able to get a couple hundred out of their locks.
It’s worth a try, anyway, at one of these sites:
Resell Interesting Finds
On Amazon and eBay, you can sell just about anything.
Which means that you can also resell just about anything.
Head to yard sales, flea markets, the local Goodwill, or even check out curb throw-aways to find things free or cheap that you might be able to make money from.
In some cases, you might not have to do anything to the items you find to resell them, whereas some stuff might need a good cleaning or refinishing first.
If you’re careful about buying low and only buying things that can sell for high, you’ll soon be making a profit.
Turn Photos into Cash
The photos you have sitting on your smartphone can turn into extra money in your pocket!
Apps and websites will pay you a commission when someone wants to buy one as part of a subscription or as a single stock photo.
The following sites are among those with the easiest processes and best commissions for photographers:

Become a Freelance Blogger
People say it’s easy to make money blogging.
That’s not entirely true.
What they’re not telling you is that, yes, you can make money blogging.
But it’s usually not from your own blog that you make the most money.
Instead, it’s by doing other things related to blogging, like writing posts for other blogs, affiliate marketing, sponsorships, advertising, and more.
Freelance blogging is a great way to get your work in front of new audiences while making money per post you write.
Make a goal to get a few posts written and accepted each week this month, and you’ll easily reach your $1,000 goal.

Refinance Your Mortgage or Loans
Refinancing your mortgage, student loans, personal loans, or even your car loan won’t necessarily make you money right now.
It definitely can save you a lot of money each month, though.
Think about how much saving $200 or $300 just from refinancing a loan could help you in future months.
Hopefully, it helps you enough to not be in the same position you are now where you need extra cash to get by!
Credit unions are excellent options for low-interest rates on a variety of loan types, so if you have one near you or are already a member of one, you might want to try there first to check their refinancing options.
Otherwise, shop around with local banks and lenders to get an idea of what other rates and offers are out there.
One of the best things I’ve ever done for myself is cut my cable bill.
I know it’s not for everyone but saving $100 a month just by dropping that cost was worth it to me.
You can switch to low-cost services like Netflix and Hulu to have plenty to watch.
If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you get access to tons of movies and shows for free already!
Sling TV’s base package is only about $20, and various add-ons are $5 to $10, making it a super affordable build-your-own-TV-package service.
Don’t forget to check out all the subscriptions you have, too, because you probably have more than you even think about.
Trim can help you cut subscriptions you don’t use or need to save you money every month.
Use Your Phone to Find Local Gigs
It’s easy to find gigs around your neighborhood that you can do in your spare time with apps that match you to people near you who need help.
Bonus: You can use whatever skills you have to find jobs that match your expertise and interests!
Or, try Field Agent, which is a little different. This app gives local missions that you can complete at stores with quick tasks, like taking photos or answering surveys about your experience.
Search Craigslist for Gigs
Craigslist has a wide range of jobs, from full-time employment to quick gigs.
Don’t forget to utilize it when you need money fast!
Just be sure to use your best judgment, as people have been known to get caught in scams on the site.
Use your car to deliver things all over the neighborhood!
UberEats lets you deliver food to people from their favorite restaurants, while Amazon Flex lets you deliver Amazon packages to your neighbors.
Deliv.co is a great option for people with large trucks to help retail stores provide same-day delivery services to customers.
Attend Focus Groups
Think of focus groups like in-depth surveys that could take several hours or days to complete.
You can do these online, too, but sometimes the in-person ones can be the best ones for making a lot of cash because they’re long.
You might need to participate for several days, but you’ll get fairly rewarded for your time.
FocusGroups.com lets you search by city to find focus groups near you.
It’s likely that several families that live near you could use affordable babysitting.
Most babysitters – even teenagers – can earn at least $5 per hour, per child they care for.
Check with your local laws to find out about the allowed ratio of adults to children (usually about 1:6, depending on age).
If you can take six kids at a time at that rate, that’s $30 an hour, or $240 for a full, 8-hour day.
You could earn $20 or more an hour as a dog walker.
Shoot for 10 hours a week or more walking neighborhood dogs and do an excellent job to get awesome referrals, and you may end up with an extra $1,000 in your pocket this month.
These sites and apps help you find pets to walk:
- Fetch! Pet Care
Help Neighbors with Daily Tasks
Assist your neighbors with whatever you can think of on your days off.
From general household repairs to helping the elderly get their mail or do laundry, you don’t need to look further than your neighborhood to find plenty of money-making opportunities.
Help the Medical Industry
You might be eligible for a paid clinical trial that can pay thousands of dollars upon completion.
These trials are crucial to the medical industry for finding cures for diseases, ailments, and more, and for research purposes, so many of them will pay handsomely for your time.
Check out ClinicalTrials.gov to see what trials are available in your area.
Donate Eggs or Sperm
Donating sperm can yield an average of $400 or more every month, while one egg donation can soar up to $14,000 (although the process is quite lengthy and detailed).
You can call your local hospital to inquire about where the closest donation centers are and learn more about the process.
Start a Direct Sales Business
Direct sales can give you a steady stream of extra income once you get a solid customer base going.
With so many companies to choose from, virtually anyone can find a company that fits their interest and lifestyle.
Here are a few ideas for your first direct sales business:
- Mary Kay Cosmetics
- The Pampered Chef
Make money while driving your car with Uber or Lyft!
Ridesharing is a convenient, flexible way for you to make side money without having to spend a ton of time doing it.
Drive for a few hours on the weekends or after work, and you could get at least a few hundred extra dollars a month.
Rent Extra Space
There’s no better way to maximize your income than by renting out extra space in your home that isn’t getting used.
Airbnb is one of the most well-known sites for matching renters with people who need temporary homes or rooms.
But, you can also rent rooms, garage space, parking space, and more with sites like SpareRoom.com, Spacer, and SpotHero.
