But, did you know that you can also earn cash over the phone by taking surveys on your smartphone or landline?

Most people aren’t aware that this type of survey exists and that you can get paid for it.

You can even make money to answer text messages from your favorite research companies!

You may have gotten calls inviting you to take a survey over the phone, but there’s no way to tell if these calls are legit and will actually pay you for your time.

The best way to make sure you’re getting paid is by signing up with survey and focus group companies who conduct phone interviews and have a proven track record of getting paid.

You’ll be put on their list to get invitations to phone surveys, and you’ll know you’ll get rewarded for your time!

What are Telephone Surveys?

What’s the difference between online surveys and phone surveys?

I want to make it clear that this post will be talking about telephone surveys and not mobile surveys.

There’s a difference.

When you take a mobile survey, you’re using your mobile device to answer written questions.

It’s basically the same thing you’d do on a website that provides written surveys, only you use your smartphone or tablet to access the mobile website to complete the survey.

Telephone surveys are not the same things.

These surveys have an interviewer that calls you and asks you questions.

The questions might be similar to those you’d answer on traditional surveys, but they also give you a chance to be more open-ended with your answers.

Instead of multiple choice questions, the interviewer will ask you something that doesn’t have specific answers.

You can answer the question in a few sentences, which helps you fully explain your opinion.

In other words, they aren’t as restrictive.

You still get paid for your time, and you’ll probably get paid even more than you would with an online survey.

Some companies prefer to conduct phone surveys because of how they allow respondents to answer questions in full, which can make the survey more valuable to a company.

These types of surveys tend to eliminate bias better, too.

You know how online surveys tend to sway you into certain answers because of how the questions are worded?

You might be tempted to answer a certain way once your brain figures out the type of answers the survey is looking for.

You may not do it on purpose, but you can still subconsciously get swayed in a certain direction.

Phone surveys don’t do that as much.

You have more freedom to be truthful with your responses without questions steering you one way or the other.

In most cases, a phone survey will pay you in cash, and it’s not uncommon to make $25 or more for about 15 to 20 minutes of your time.

Some survey sites that conduct phone surveys pay in points or credits instead of cash, but you can redeem them for cash, gift cards, or other prizes.

How to Take Telephone Surveys for Money

To take telephone surveys, you’ll need to first sign up for the companies that provide them. I outline several of these a little later in this post.

After you register, be sure to fill out your profile.

The company will try to match you with surveys that make sense for you based on your information, likes, dislikes, etc.

When you have a complete profile, it’s more likely that you’ll get matched with phone surveys that make sense for you.

Also, make sure you’re searching the profile for any specific checkbox you may have to mark that opts you in for phone surveys.

Some companies will require that you specifically opt into these surveys to make sure it’s not violating any privacy and contract laws.

Like traditional surveys, you may have to qualify for a survey before you can complete it.

A company may send you an invitation to a pre-screening survey with a few questions that help the company know if you’re a good fit to complete the full questionnaire.

If your information matches what the company is looking for, then someone will call you to complete the full survey.

If not, you’ll get “screened out” of the survey, and you’ll need to wait for another invitation.

Once you’re on a call for a survey, be sure to go to a distraction-free area.

Find a room with a door you can close, turn off the TV or radio, and make sure you have a few minutes of kid-free and pet-free time so that you can hear all the questions correctly and your interviewer can hear you.

The interviewer will go over some information, like what the survey is about, how much you’ll make, and any special instructions.

Be sure to listen to each question in its entirety before responding, and then give thought to each answer.

After you complete all questions, the interviewer will let you know that you’re done and tell you any other steps you should take, if any, after hanging up (some companies will have a quick follow-up survey online).

Several companies that offer phone surveys also have other forms of surveys, like online surveys, in-person focus groups, or even text message surveys that you can take for extra cash.

Look in your profile to make sure you’ve opted into any types you’re interested in so that you can receive invites.

Companies That Conduct Telephone Surveys

Look no further than this list for companies that pay you for taking surveys over the phone!

Many of these companies conduct focus groups in a variety of ways, like via the web, video messaging, in-person, or on the phone.

Focus groups are more in-depth than regular surveys, so you may need to set aside more time than you would for an online survey.

But, that means they’ll also pay you more!

Harris Poll Online

Harris Poll Online has mostly regular online surveys, but it’s been known to also offer paid product testing, telephone focus groups, and other types of research studies.

You can always sign up and take regular surveys in your spare time while you wait for a phone study to be available.

Harris Poll Online has plenty of rewards to choose from, which you can redeem with the points you earn from surveys and focus groups.

FocusGroup

FocusGroup is one of the best sites for helping you find paid focus groups to participate in.

The site lists available groups by location, so you can even find ones near where you live.

But there are also telephone surveys and focus groups when they’re available.

Once you sign up, you’ll start receiving emails about new focus groups that match your information.

When you complete one, you can typically earn between $75 and $100 for your participation.

You can even earn more when you refer your friends to join!

Download the Focus Pointe Global app to take more surveys on your mobile device and be the first to know when new research studies are available.

Check out the National Studies section to find phone interviews.

Opini

Opini is a great option for UK participants to earn some cash with phone surveys, although it also operates in Asia and the USA.

This is a panel similar to Harris Poll Online that mostly provides online surveys yet has the occasional phone survey for members to take.

Surveys here range between $0.50 and $3, on average, and pay via PayPal.

How much you’ll need in your account to be able to redeem depends on where you live (it’s $17 in Australia, but $12.50 in the USA, for example).

Plaza Research

Sign up for Plaza Research to have access to its wide variety of research studies.

Plaza Research is a leading focus group company that conducts studies and groups in several facilities all over the United States.

The company works with everyone from adults to young kids (with parental permission, of course) depending on the research needed.

This company does everything from in-person focus groups and home interviews to online, mobile, and phone surveys!

You’ll get paid depending on the length and scope of the study, and you’ll get a check in the mail after a phone survey is completed.

Probe Market Research

Probe Market Research, or PMR, is all about focus groups online, in-person, or over the phone.

A typical study here ranges from $50 to $100, but some even go as high as $400 or more, depending on their length.

Most of the research done by this company focuses on new products and their launches, and you’ll get to share your opinions about them before they hit the shelves or their commercials hit the TV.

Respondent

Respondent is a research company that matches businesses and other research companies with people who love to take surveys and participate in focus groups.

Once you sign up, you can browse the open projects and apply for ones that interest you.

Each project will tell you the approximate length, your payment, and how the study will be conducted.

There is everything from in-person focus groups to quick online surveys to length phone interviews available here.

This is one of the best places to go if you’re interested in trying out other forms of research studies because there’s a lot of variety in projects.

SurveyFeeds

SurveyFeeds is another site that offers a variety of study types, like in-person focus groups, one-on-one interviews, and phone surveys.

You can sign up on the site and then download the mobile app for iOS and Android devices to stay plugged into your account at all times.

SurveyFeeds is a site that collects information about focus groups from all over the United States and puts them in one spot, so they’re easy to find.

You’ll find some of the highest-paying studies here, and can even specifically search for Online or Nationwide opportunities to find phone studies rather than in-person studies.

Tell Us Your Opinion

As the name suggests, Tell Us Your Opinion is all about learning the opinions of participants in order to further research!

Once you sign up, you’ll need to fill out a survey that can help match you with current and future focus groups.

Then, you’ll be able to accept projects that come your way after agreeing to your time and compensation.

Studies will usually be either online or by phone.

User Interviews

User Interviews works similarly to regular online survey panels but has more in-depth and higher-paying focus groups and phone surveys for members to take.

Once you sign up, you’ll receive invites to studies that are a good match for you.

You’ll need to answer some pre-screening questions to determine if you’re a good fit.

If so, you can accept participation in the study and get paid.

WatchLAB

WatchLAB has online, in-person, and in-home studies available to participants.

Not only will you get compensated for your time, but all people who sign up and participate in studies will earn entries to the quarterly cash sweepstakes for $100.

For phone interviews, you’ll receive a check in the mail after completion, and you can expect to receive it in about two weeks.
