If you’ve bought or used a product or service in a class action lawsuit, you could participate in the settlement, meaning you’ll get some money that the company pays to everyone involved in the lawsuit.

The downside is that you’ll need to find these settlements and apply for your share of the money, but they can be worth the time it takes to apply when you receive your money in the mail.

What Are Class Action Rebates, Settlement Rebates, and Lawsuit Rebates?

You may hear of class action rebates or settlements being called different names, like settlement rebates and lawsuit rebates.

Generally, though, each of these terms means the same thing.

A class action rebate is money that you can receive when from a class action settlement.

The settlement comes from a class action lawsuit, which is when a group of people or businesses file a lawsuit against a particular company.

The lawsuit can be for a number of reasons, such as an illness or injury deriving from a product or service they used or losing money buying a product they deem is flawed, dangerous, etc.

For example, you might have looked up “sperm donation compensation” or “How do I donate sperm for money?” and found a sperm donation clinic near you to donate to for some extra money.

Then, you found out that the sperm bank is named in a class-action lawsuit where plaintiffs allege that the company failed to prevent sperm with known genetic defects from being sold to women who wanted to get pregnant.

A 2019 settlement saw this happen, and one lawyer believes the company could be required to hand over $5 million to those affected.

Class action lawsuits exist to protect people or groups who have fallen victim to wrongdoing.

As a member named in the lawsuit, you can become eligible for a portion of the payout if the settlement goes through the courts.

Why Participate in a Class Action Settlement?

First of all, if you’ve been the victim of any type of class action settlement that you’re eligible to participate in, then you have a right to a portion of the settlement amount.

Even if it’s only a few bucks, it’s still money that you’re entitled to and, therefore, you should claim it.

Another reason to participate is because these settlements are designed to make companies accountable for their wrongdoings, even if it was a mistake.

The court system allows for class action lawsuits to make sure that companies don’t get away with making the same mistake twice.

When you claim the money for which you’re eligible, you’re telling those companies that they should be accountable, and you’re proving that they are being held accountable.

If money doesn’t get claimed by consumers, then the money could end up back in the pockets of the company involved in the settlement, which shows them they don’t need to be accountable for their actions.

Where to Find Class Action Rebates

Not sure where to find class action rebates?

There are plenty of places on the web to find them, but the two that I’ve found most helpful are ClassAction.org and ClassActionRebates.com.

These sites list out current rebates for which you still have time to apply.

You can view their details and deadlines, so you’ll know exactly how much time you have to apply.

You’re also able to search brand websites if there’s a specific product or service that you have an issue with.

Most companies add the information to their websites to be transparent with consumers.

You can usually find a link to the online claim form by looking in the footer of the site, but some sites may have them tucked away somewhere else, like in a News or Blog page.

Once you find a claim you want to participate in, make sure you fill out all required information.

Usually, you’ll also need proof of purchase if the claim has to do with something you bought.

Pay attention to deadlines and instructions for submitting the claim to ensure that you file properly and are eligible to claim your part of the settlement.
